Ujjal Dosanjh served as the Attorney General of British Columbia from 1995 to 2000 and then as the Premier of
British Columbia from February 2000 to May 2001.  In June 2004, he made the leap to federal politics when he
was elected Member of Parliament for Vancouver South.From July 2004 to February 2006, Ujjal served as federal Minister of Health. His achievements include the $41.3 billion-dollar 10-year Plan to Strengthen Health Care, which was agreed upon by first ministers, and resulted in the establishment of evidence-based benchmarks for wait times in December 2005.  Ujjal modernized Health Canada by creating a more open and transparent approval process, particularly with regard to prescription drugs. This led to the first-ever public forum on drug approvals in Canada, which allowed members of the public to present their views on selective COX-2 inhibitors to Health Canada‚Äôs expert advisory panel.  Ujjal was re-elected in January 2006 and then again in October 2008. He has served as the Official Opposition Critic for National Defence, Foreign Affairs, and Public Safety. He currently serves as the Official Opposition Critic for Health.
