Mayor Chiamparino was born in 1948.
He received a degree in Political Science, writing his thesis on econometrics, specifically in the labour market. For several years he was a Political Science faculty member and researcher at the Laboratory of Political Economy Cognetti De Martiis at the University of Torino; and coordinator of the programme for the Piedmont Region between 1975 and 1979.
Mayor Chiamparino was also a consultant for the Board of Directors of the Istituto Bancario San Paolo di Torino between 1978 and 1980.
Afterwards he took up several political and trade-union positions until his election to the Italian Parliament in 1996; for 5 years a member of the Board of the Chamber of Commons - National Budget Division.
In 2001 he was first elected as Mayor of Torino, and was re-elected in 2006.
