Heart & Stroke

Yves Savoie joined Heart & Stroke as Chief Executive Officer, Canada, in April 2017. He is a fierce advocate for a health system that is genuinely patient-centred. Yves is deeply knowledgeable about the unique role health charities fulfill, working closely with research communities and governments, to enable Canadians to live healthy lives and to live well with chronic disease and disabilities.

During the last decade, Yves led the MS Society of Canada. Among many accomplishments as President & CEO, he steered a significant renewal initiative to create a more unified organization, reducing expenses through shared services, engaging people with MS actively in the society's research programs, and pressing governments for better support for caregivers and people living with disabilities.

A bilingual native of New Brunswick, Yves brings a depth of fundraising experience to Heart & Stroke, especially in the major gift arena. He is passionate about opportunities to build new streams of revenue and to harness the potential of the digital revolution.

Yves holds a master’s degree in management from McGill University’s McGill-McConnell Program for National Voluntary Sector Leaders. He also has an MBA from Concordia University, and a BA in international relations from the University of Toronto. Earlier in his academic life he attended the Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific.

Yves is deeply committed to active learning and to collaborative leadership. He is also actively involved in the community and currently serves as a member of Imagine Canada's standards program and of the national steering committee of the federal government's Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR), dedicated to the integration of research into care.

Heart & Stroke has ambitious mission and fundraising goals and Yves will continue to build the organization, providing leadership and strategic guidance for the foundation’s world-class heart disease and stroke research program as well as its health promotion and advocacy initiatives, with a particular focus on Indigenous peoples, women and children. He is committed to strengthening the foundation’s ties to its donors, volunteers and supporters.
