First elected to the House of Commons in 1997, Gary Lunn was re-elected in 2000, 2004, 2006, and 2008. After serving as Minister of Natural Resources from February 2006 to October 2008, he was appointed Minister of State (Sport) on October 30, 2008.

Minister of State Lunn is a strong advocate for amateur sport in Canada, and is a former member of the Canadian Ski Patrol. He welcomes the challenge of being Minister of State (Sport) as Canada prepares to welcome the world to the Vancouver–Whistler Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2010.

Minister of State Lunn practised law in Victoria prior to entering federal politics and is a member of the British Columbia Law Society. He has worked previously in the mining and forestry industries of British Columbia and northern Canada. He is a certified carpenter and has taught first aid for St. John’s Ambulance.

Gary resides in North Saanich, British Columbia, with his wife Alexis and their two children, David and Victoria.
