Ernest Lang

Ernest is the founder of Promerita Group. His experience includes being a founding partner of one the leading portfolio and wealth management practices at RBC Dominion Securities, Canada’s largest bank-owned investment dealer and wealth management company. He also has an extensive track record of entrepreneurial success, having been instrumental in establishing several significant enterprises in Canada and abroad. Ernest’s professional experience encompasses corporate acquisitions, structured financial products, equity and debt financing, international trade, real estate finance and development, business start-ups, and multi-asset class investments.

With his roots in family business, his experience in wealth management and as a multi-industry entrepreneur, coupled with his corporate and finance background, Ernest is frequently relied upon by corporations and private family groups to provide strategic business and financial advice and to develop effective risk management, capital allocation and investment strategies. He has presented these strategies and provided comparative analysis at provincial accounting bodies, international financial industry conferences, global tax and legal firms and has been a university guest lecturer.

Ernest enjoys lifelong learning and earned “Double Firsts” (First Class Honours with a double major degree in History and English) from the University of British Columbia, holds a specialized MBA degree (Banking, University of London, UK), is a designated Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Financial Management Advisor (FMA), and has been appointed a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI).

Ernest has an extensive history of community service as a board director and committee member of a number of leading organizations including the provincial board of the Certified Management Accountants (CMA) of British Columbia where he participated in the original proposal to merge national accounting designations, the national government relations committee for Canada’s pre-eminent financial advisory advocacy and policy association, Vancouver’s Union Gospel Mission as well as the Insurance Council of British Columbia.

Born in Singapore, Ernest is grateful to have been raised in Vancouver and deeply appreciates living in this corner of the globe. Outside of his professional and community involvement, he prizes time with his wife and two sons, enjoys listening to and playing music and relishes opportunities to expand his culinary horizons through international travel with his family.

Kim Moody

Kim Moody

A Chartered Accountant, Registered Trust and Estate Practitioner and a tax specialist practicing in Calgary as the CEO / Director Canadian Tax Advisory with Moodys Gartner Tax Law LLP / Moodys Private Client LLP. His main area of expertise is tax and estate planning for the owner-manager of private corporations, executives, professional athletes and other high net worth individuals. Kim obtained his Bachelor of Management degree from The University of Lethbridge and his CA designation from The Institute of Chartered
Accountants of Alberta.

Kim is a Past Chair and Past Deputy Chair of the Board, Past Treasurer, as well as Past Chair of the Technical Committee for the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners of Canada (“STEP”). In addition, Kim is a past Chair of the Board of Governors for the Canadian Tax Foundation. He is also a member and Co-Chair of the CBA/CPA Canada Joint Committee on Taxation and a member of The Canadian Petroleum Tax Society. Kim has a keen interest in planned charitable giving. He is a past Chair for the Southern Alberta Round Table for the Canadian Association of Gift Planners. Kim is a co-founder of the Tax Specialist Group – an association of tax specialist firms across Canada. Kim is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Business in Calgary 2012 Leader of Tomorrow Award, and in 2013 was conferred the Fellow of the Chartered Accountants of Alberta designation. He is also a recipient of the STEP Founders Award for Outstanding Achievement which was conferred in 2013.

Kim is the author of numerous articles, papers and courses on tax and estate planning and he has lectured extensively for a number of organizations on tax, estate planning and planned giving, including STEP and the Canadian Tax Foundation. He is a past instructor for the Certified Financial Planners designation and is a current tax instructor for the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta Professional Development Program.

Kim is married to Vivian and they have four sons – Alexander, Lucas, Jacob and Benjamin.

Peter Weissman

Peter Weissman

Since he began practicing purely as a tax specialist in 1988, Peter’s has focused on corporate tax and estate planning (domestic and cross-border), reorganizations and shareholder planning. His practice includes special needs planning, the creative use of trusts and succession planning. Peter's practice also includes structuring mergers and acquisitions, performing tax due diligence for potential purchasers and providing expert witness reports.

Peter was appointed a Fellow of Chartered Professional Accountants in 2017 and is currently National Chair of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP Canada) Education Committee and Co-Chair of the Disability Tax Fairness Alliance (co-founded by Peter and Lembi Buchanan in 2017). He received the STEP Founder’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in 2018 and was the 2016 recipient of the Michael Cadesky Volunteer of the Year Award from STEP Canada. Peter was a Governor of the Canadian Tax Foundation from 2014 - 2016 and served as the inaugural co-chair of the Disability Advisory Committee to the Minister of Revenue and the CRA in 2005.

Peter recently testified in Ottawa, before the Commons and Senate Standing Committees on Finances, regarding the proposed changes to the tax rules for private corporations. He has also appeared on BNN and CTV News Channel regarding the private company proposals and addressed the proposals in two articles for the Globe and Mail. Peter also testified before the Senate Standing Committee on Finances regarding the tax measures contained in Bill C-63.

Tiffany is an independent public affairs consultant and crisis communications specialist. An active community builder and advocate for increased diversity in politics, Tiffany has held a number of key roles in the public sector including working as a political advisor in several provincial Minister’s Offices and the Office of the Premier. Tiffany currently sits on the Board of Governors for the University of Windsor, is a biweekly columnist on the Toronto Star Sunday Politics Page and a weekly panelist for the CBC program Power & Politics.
