Dr. K. Kellie Leitch
Chair The Ivey Centre for Health Innovation
Dr. K. Kellie Leitch is currently Chair of the Ivey Centre for Health Innovation and Leadership and Director of the Health Sector MBA program at the Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario.
Dr. Leitch is also an orthopaedic paediatric surgeon at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto working with the affiliated organization: The Innovations Group – where she provides knowledge and expertise in health innovation and commercialization.
Previously, Dr. Leitch was Chair/Chief of Paediatric Surgery at the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario/Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. During this time she also served as Assistant Dean at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.
Dr. Leitch recently served as Chair of the Expert Panel for the Children's Fitness Tax Credit in 2006, which made recommendations to the Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, regarding the best ways to implement this tax credit designed to encourage health and fitness among Canadian children. In 2008, Dr. Leitch authored the report entitled: “Reaching for the Top: A Report by the Advisor on Healthy Children & Youth”. The report is a ‘call to action’ for government and industry on key issues effecting Canadian children and youth.
Dr. Leitch earned her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Toronto in 1994, MBA from Dalhousie University in 1998, completed the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program in 2001 at the University of Toronto and became a Fellow of Clinical Paediatric Orthopaedics at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles/University of Southern California in 2002.
As a volunteer, Dr. Leitch serves as a council member on the NRC (National Research Council of Canada), a board member of Genome Canada, a director on the YMCA (GTA) board of directors, Vice President of CANFAR (Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research) and is also the founder of The Sandbox Project. In addition, Dr. Leitch hosts an annual golf tournament to raise funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
Dr. Leitch was selected as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 for her work in both medicine and business in 2005. Currently, she publishes in the clinical and the best practice model areas of the health care field. In 2010, Kellie was appointed to the Order of Ontario for her contributions as a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon and a national voice for children’s health in Canada. Most recently, she was honoured by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader.
