Senior Vice President Commercial Banking
Gillian Riley is Senior Vice President for Scotiabank’s Canadian Commercial Bank. In this role, Gillian manages a regional sales force located throughout Canada that serves more than 21,000 Commercial clients. She also leads Canada’s Agricultural Banking portfolio and business development in the domestic Commercial market.
Prior to her current role, Gillian was Senior Vice President and Head of Retail Deposits, Payments and Lending, where she managed Canadian Retail and Small Business deposits, GIC investments and payments—including debit cards, credit cards and unsecured lending. Since joining the bank in 1994, Gillian has held progressively more senior positions – including Senior Vice President of Retail Deposits and Head of Dundee Bank in Canada, and Vice President of Retail Mortgages in Canada. Prior to the executive positions Gillian was part of a cross functional role moving around to learn about various areas of the Canadian Bank. Gillian started her career in Commercial Banking.
Gillian holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Hartford Business School, studied in France, and has a Bachelor of Arts (major in Economics) from the University of Western Ontario.
Gillian previously held committee positions at The Canadian Bankers Association, Interac and the Visa Advisory Boards. Gillian is actively involved in the community, serving on the board of the Women’s College Hospital Foundation, managing a girls’ tournament soccer team, and raising funds for the local public school, Gillian and her husband Chris have three children.
