Join WWF experts and Dr. Roberta Bondar for the release of WWF’s 2012 Living Planet Report, which assesses the health of our planet. The Living Planet Report is the world's leading, science-based analysis on the health of our only planet and the impact of human activity. Its key finding? Humanity's demands exceed our planet's capacity to sustain us. Learn how Canada’s footprint compares and what we can do reduce our demands on nature’s capital.

The Living Planet Report is the world's leading, science-based analysis on the health of our only planet and the impact of human activity. Its key finding? Humanity's demands exceed our planet's capacity to sustain us. That is, we ask for more than what we have.

The Living Planet Report  is built around two indicators:

  • the Living Planet Index, which reflects the health of the planet's ecosystems; and
  • the Ecological Footprint, which shows the extent of human demand on these ecosystems.

These measures are tracked over several decades to reveal past trends and provide insight into what might lie ahead. The Living Planet Report is produced with the Zoological Society of London and the Global Footprint Network.  To view the 2010 Living Planet Report, please visit wwf.ca/lpr.

The Living Planet Report shows how the choices we make might lead to a sustainable society living in harmony with robust ecosystems, or to the collapse of these same ecosystems, resulting in a permanent loss of biodiversity and erosion of the planet's ability to support people.
