The Technion: the Gateway to the "Start-Up Nation"

 In recent years Israel has become a model for a fast growing economy which is driven by innovative high tech industry. Currently there are more than 4000 start-up companies in Israel spanning from information technology to clean energy and medical devices. Prof. Lavie will discuss the outstanding achievements of the high-tech sector in Israel and will highlight the role played by the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in this outstanding achievement. A recent survey revealed that 75% of the start-up companies in Israel and 50% of the Israeli companies registered on NASDAQ were either founded or run by Technion graduates. Prof. Lavie will discuss how the Technion successfully prepares its graduates to be innovative and entrepreneurial while making some comparisons between Canada and Israel.
