RECLAIMING OUR NATIONAL DREAM: HOW BUSINESS LEADERSHIP CAN SAVE UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE

April 19, 2011

In her speech to the Economic Club, Ms. Carmichael will argue that ideology, protectionism, and inaction in our health care system will – paradoxically – create the very two-tier system that many fear.   Ms. Carmichael is on the forefront of a movement to protect and strengthen Canadian health care at a time when many believe it is in the throes of an existential crisis.  Drawing on lessons learned from a career as a senior executive in the financial industry and the head of a highly successful medical advisory service, she believes business thinking is the key to building a new and sustainable model that puts patients first.  Ms. Carmichael will address the need to move beyond the public-private debate, a greater focus on innovation and the transformative role of technology and the use of complementary service models. “We have to be open to exploring all of the options if we are to re-establish Canada as the home of the best health care system in the world.”
