Over the past 18 months, Europe has been engulfed by a sovereign debt crisis, which has dominated not just the European economic and political agenda, but also posed the threat of re-kindling the global financial crisis.  European leaders and policy makers started slow with their crisis management, but now appear to have caught up.  They have embraced a comprehensive reform program, which is meant to strengthen both the crisis management capacity and economic governance of the EU.

In his speech, Jens will provide an analysis of the crisis, a review of the new reform program, and discuss the economic prospects for EU countries and the strength of the Union.  Many European countries face long-term challenges, and the outlook for the weakest countries is negative. How will European policy makers deal with these ongoing challenges? Make-up or break-up?
